"An Owl Called Star" : A Captivating Tale That Will Enchant Readers

Something about that owl on the cover caught my attention. I simply had to pick up this book from the library.

Star is a barn owl, a predator bird. What if this bird is brought into someone's home? Can it even be a pet? The Harry Potter series had a domesticated owl. Does that mean it is still possible?

Star looks magnificent especially after she slowly gains strength after being rescued and brought home by two children who are friends. They found him nearly dead in an old barn in their neighborhood. One of their mothers is a vet, thus making rescue possible. The entire process of nursing the bird back to health has been written an extremely engaging manner thus keeping the attention of the reader, be a bird enthusiast or not.

The plot thickens with the arrival of a hamster. The protagonist promises a friend to take care of her hamster while she is away. She figures that Star is in a cage and so is the hamster. Nothing can go wrong, until it does. The hamster goes missing! That's just after the owl managed to get out of the cage and nearly attacked the hamster. Quick thinking however saved the hamster and owl was returned to his cage. And yet, the hamster went missing soon after. Hell breaks lose and the story moves pretty fast, with suspense building all along the way. The ending is incredibly beautiful and satistyfing. A must read for any middle schooler, especially someone who loves birds.
